Spring is here and a lot of us are going through our closets, cabinets, and cupboards to start this season off with a clean house. For most of us, this is an annual event where we decide what to keep, donate or throw out. Like the clothes, papers, toys, and miscellaneous items in our house, we should rid ourselves of the things holding us back from being devoted Christians. Below are few ways you can cleanse your soul this spring.

  1. Clean your mind: There’s a saying, “You are your worst enemy”. It’s a reference to how we treat ourselves. Sometimes we are our biggest critique and may even find ourselves thinking negatively about ourselves. These negative thoughts can range from our image, career, future, and more. Cleaning your mind means actively removing those thoughts and instead when they arise changing them to positive ones. Asking yourself, what do I love about my body? What is one thing I can do for my future? What can I do to move forward at work?

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. –Romans 12:2

  1. Clean your body: The pandemic has changed the way we live. Like most businesses, gyms are at limited capacity or have closed. Many of us have found ourselves eating unhealthy food to cope with the stress. This spring recommit to daily workouts and a healthy diet. Create a home gym if you have the space for it or find healthy cooking recipes online.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? –1 Corinthians 6:19

  1. Clean your heart: It’s never easy to forgive. It requires acknowledging the hurt and finding a way to move forward. Sometimes the inability to forgive can have long-term health effects so it’s important to find a way to free your heart so that you can have some sense of peace. This may not happen overnight or in this season but the work can start this spring. Ask yourself, ‘What do I need to be at peace?’

let’s approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. -– Hebrews 10:22

  1. Maintain a clean soul: Spring cleaning is a lot of work but maintaining a clean house requires constant cleaning. Treat your soul the same way. Being a Christian requires constantly reading the word and praying. Continue to do these things as a way to maintain a clean soul.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23
